Beeler Street, Pittsburgh, is located a walking distance from Schenley Park and the business districts of Squirrel Hill, Shadyside, and Oakland. Its proximity to three universities and its outstanding public schools bring a diverse mix of professionals, academics, families, and students to the street. This blog shares information about issues and events that affect the quality of life on our street. It has no official connection to the Beeler Street Association.
This intersection does need attention but the real issue there seems to be that some pedestrians don't cross in the crosswalks and some drivers coming from Oakland and turning on to Beeler simply go too fast in spite of the left-turn signal... a bit of enforcement during the evening peak period would do wonders.
ReplyDeleteI think those things are true and much more. I am hoping that there are improvements that could be made to improve safety without using the person-hours of a cop at the intersection. "All walk" signals like at Forbes and Morewood, timed crossing like Forbes and Murray, something to slow the traffic between Morewood and Beeler so that cars have less momentum to make that speeding left turn! These are just some thoughts. More coming soon on the progress of the OTMA/CMU study . . . . .
